Unfortunately, the Internet has been has been saturated with these kinds of kits, sold by fly-by-night or auction type sellers to the disappointment of many unsuspecting customers and in turn has given leather repair kits, in general, a bad reputation. To our horror, we've even seen videos that recommend using glue from the hardware store for surface repairs and iron on patches for sub-patch material. We can guarantee you, no reputable repair person uses this kind of repair process. They also recommend using Super Glue for repairs. Please, do not use Super Glue on the surface of leather, it's too brittle and it will crack. It's fine on seams though.
Professionals use products like ours that require a two step process of using a professional quality repair compound and a top color coat. Repairs may also require a sub-patch material to strengthen the repair; our kit includes this material. With our Color Flex you have the ability to blend the color into the surrounding area, in the event that the color doesn't match perfectly. You can't do that with those little jars of colored paste.
Please note, it's imperative that the surface you start with is clean...really clean. Otherwise you run the risk of improper adhesion and you may find that our products won't adhere to the surface like they should. Clean first with liquid soap and water. Really scrub and rinse with clean water, followed by a good cleaning with Magic Mender Presto Prep.
*These kits are intended for several small repairs, not major projects, like changing the entire color of an auto interior, that kind of job is still best left to the pros.
Do not use vinyl conditioners on leather or any products that contain silicone.
